The food was really good. Good size portions and very tasty.

We all really enjoyed our time at the coach House Inn. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Had a great atmosphere. The carvery was nicely presented, All the meat looked delicious and roast potatoes that were crispy,a wide range of perfectly cooked vegetables and tasty gravy. All was piping hot. We didn’t have desserts as we were full up. We look forward to going again.

What a gem The Coach House Inn at Winterbourne Abbas is. My husband and I are on holiday in the area and made a booking for the Sunday carvery. We got a cheery welcome on arrival and ordered drinks. The carvery was exceptional, the choice of 3 meats and the selection of vegetables is probably the best variety in a carvery we have ever had. Very impressed. Managed a dessert too, I had Eton Mess sundae and my husband had orange and treacle sponge, both very well presented. The team were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be returning in the week for another meal or 2 before we go home.

I had driven past many times and decided to book Sunday lunch as I was attending a late matinee screening in Dorchester. Absolutely fantastic, the staff were very polite but not overbearing g, the carvery was the best I have experienced. The crispiest roast potatoes and a good selection of vegetables. We went for the carvery around 6 ish and due to the late time and the carvery finishing at 7 pm half of it was very dry , the Yorkshire’s were rock hard as it had all been sat there for too long.

We had a meet up of previous work colleagues. The booking process was very smooth, the service was efficient and the food was one of the best pub lunches we’ve had for a while - and excellent value.
One of the things we particularly appreciated was the spacing of the tables both in the restaurant and bar area. Customers are therefore not crowded together which creates a more positive atmosphere.

I’m a Coeliac so very pleased with gf options. Lovely place for a night. Friendly, great BBQ with live music outside. Nice rooms tastefully decorated and beautiful toiletries. The downside is all rooms face the main road from/ to Dorchester, so if you're a light sleeper take decent earplugs.

A very nicely presented and spacious building. Service was very good and no delays. We both had Haddock & chips and it comes with 3 little pots of goodies. It was beautifully cooked and the fish was fresh. The only negative was that the portions were generally very small. For £17.50 for fish & chips, I would expect a proper size piece of fish and a decent serving of mushy peas.

My husband and I are both vegetarian and we both agreed our roast dinners were amongst the best we have had! This is based upon the vegetables which were cooked to perfection and very tasty. Often roast dinner vegetables are bland and unimaginative. There was also a wide variety of vegetables, although I would have liked to have seem more leafy green vegetables.
We were disappointed a little with the service related to our veggie options. We ordered the nut roast and the vegetable loaf, but were given two nut roasts and the person at the servery did not appear to know that a vegetable loaf was on the menu. The nut roast was nice.
We find people who don’t eat dead animals are often given an inferior service in restaurants, so we’re not surprised, but it’s disappointing.
However, we loved the spacious seating and ambience in the Coach House Inn and will definitely be back (although we will probably phone beforehand to establish what the veggie options are and to perhaps pre-order)

When we arrived we waited to be seated and a few members of staff walked past without acknowledging us. Other than that the service was good. Also, personal preference but something on the carvery made my dinner taste of aniseed. I like aniseed but not on a roast dinner. Overall a good experience and we will be back

Sad that the old "Coach and horses" name is no more!
Cold in far reaches of restaurant area where there was a strong scent of cleaning agents from the loo.
(The loos were warmer than the restaurant and very well appointed).
Would be good to not be so aware of the traffic - old fashioned stencilling / iced window / some curtaining etc effect would create a cosier feeling in the pub.
Part animal part human pictures are a bit unsettling.
It would also be far nicer to be able to use the main car park entrance to the pub rather than having to do a walk of shame by the roadside and into the foyer...
A pub should be a warm safe quietly buzzing temporary haven from the outside world.

The multi coloured napkins are good, the menu contents excellent. Low light tho' makes reading hard in small fonts on the yellow shaded everyday menu.

Friendly welcome. Dining areas very well decorated with modern feel
Found menu quite limited. No side salad served with burgers. Quality of chips poor , not freshly cooked.

We went there a couple of times during a few days holiday. Food we couldn't fault, very good indeed.Service needs to be looked at. No instructions to 'please wait here' at entrance board,so landlord was a bit off when we went to the bar to ask.Despite having the booking no one seemed to know where we were placed and eventually ' found ' a table in the dog area ( I personally don't like being with dogs). We didn't know this until the dogs started arriving, but by then we were eating and luckily the dogs were well behaved. On the next visit, we were greeted at the specified place. Initial service was fine, but we waited ages for someone to come and clear up and offer us desserts or drinks. I went through to the bar to ask, and although apologetic, the serving staff had walked past us several times, so knew we were there and long finished with the main meal. There was a raucous party in the bar, undoubtedly the staff were focussed on that.
Its a shame, because we really thought the decor, ambience and the food was great.The serving staff on Sunday were better , particularly a Scottish lad who really had his eyes on the ball, so all praise to him.
I hope it was a one off and we were a bit unlucky.

Overall a very enjoyable Sunday roast lunch. Reasonably priced and served in a nice atmosphere. If I was being overly critical, I'd say the selection of vegetables on the roast lunch leant towards being too sweet (roasted carrots& parsnips, mashed carrots & swede and braised red cabbage) particularly when the pork is served with apple sauce.
