Frequently Asked Questions- DO I NEED A RESERVATION?
- We always emphasize making a reservation. The restaurant gets to maximum capacity many days! Our online reservation system is just three quick clicks!
- IS THE AFTERNOON TEA EXPERIENCE SHARABLE?
- The Afternoon Tea experience is a three tiered tray with four courses designed for one. Offering many selections, each portion is bite sized. It begins with hot tea and scones. The tiered tray is four small appetizers, five finger sandwiches, and four miniature desserts. Should you share, each person would not be able to try each item. For example, the chilled shrimp cocktail is one piece of shrimp. The experience is a meal by itself for one.
- DO YOU HOST LARGE GROUPS FOR SPECIAL EVENTS LIKE SHOWERS, GRADUATIONS, ETC?
- We absolutely do host large groups! Our seven dining rooms offer exclusive spaces for your guests to be served and share special occasions.
- WHERE DO I PARK?
- We have a free surrounding parking lot next to the Dent House. Additionally, parking is available on the street around the front circle and on the lawn when overflow is necessary.
- WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
- Anything you like! We've noticed guests dressing up and dressing down. Whatever your occasion, dress comfortably and be prepared to help yourself to any number of hats we have available to share.
- DO YOU HAVE VEGETARIAN AND GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS?
- Our menu is coded with V for vegetarian, and GF for Gluten Free options for your convenience.
- CAN WE BRING A CAKE?
- Absolutely! We simply ask for all outside baked goods to come from bakeries, knowing that the Department of Health maintains proper sanitation in those establishments. Cake cutting and serving on our china is $1 per guest. Additionally, we have hat cakes in three flavors available to serve up to 20 guests for $35.
- ARE YOU HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE?
- We are! We have a lift to the left of our back porch. Please call for assistance when you arrive and we will be standing at attention to help you operate the handicap lift at the rear entrance. 423.521.4TEA (4832)
- CAN WE BRING A BOTTLE OF WINE?
- Polly Claire's is fully licensed and offers a variety of wines by the bottle or glass, champagne, as well as cocktails. It is not necessary to bring your own bottle of wine.

Everything was amazing! The egg salad was a little bland but other than that the food, the service, and ambience was exceptional. I thought $32 seemed a little pricey for the tea sampler. But there was a lot that went into so much variety.

The place was lovely. The fireplace was a really nice addition on a cold and windy day. The hats kept our 2 little girls entertained and we all enjoyed trying them on. The cost with only 2 Afternoon Teas and 1 extra scone was $100. We enjoyed it, but my enjoyment was dampened a bit by the bill.

Wonderful service. I'm a little confused why the waitress wears one glove but still uses that hand to bring and take things from table. That's no different than just not wearing a glove. Still has germs on gloves.

Our reservation was for 1:30. Once being seated our server told us the restaurant would close promptly at 3:00. I noticed that around 2:50 when we were gathering us our things the server was quietly nudging other customers in the room to leave by 3:00. I thought all of this was inappropriate for this type of restaurant. Maybe a fast food place but not somewhere were the bill for 2 people was almost $100.

Friends and I have always found Polly Claire's to be one of the very best restaurants for lunch in Chattanooga. After the shut down due to CoVid 19, this place is still the best! The food is always delicious and beautifully served. Our server, Melissa was kind, attentive, and prompt serving anything that we requested. The rooms at Polly Claire's, located in the historic the Dent House, are creative and charming. Their hot tea is perfectly steeped and served in lovely china teapots. This is a favorite place to meet friends and have special celebrations. We love being here!

We had a very enjoyable time, as always. The service was excellent, the tea was delicious, and we had a very relaxing visit. Favorite foods were definitely the cucumber sandwich and the little cheese/bacon tart. The ONLY constructive criticism the two of us have would be a desire for the egg salad to have a little more flavor. Especially with everything else having such distinct flavors, it is just always very bland. A little garlic or even salt would be amazing.

We love Polly Claire's. It is a 2 hr drive for us, so it is a real treat for us to eat there, and one that is usually reserved to celebrate special occasions. Our experience this trip was not as special as it has always been in the past. The servers seemed less experienced and less confident, thus unable to contribute much to the experience. The quality of the food, as well as the portion size of the afternoon tea also seemed compromised. Im.sure rising costs, Covid, staffing issues, etc has impacted Polly Claire's like most businesses, and we still enjoyed our time- but it lacked the luster we typically experience.

It was absolutely a wonderful Tea! The food was delicious the music grand and the atmosphere charming.
While the place settings were Royal Albert, top notch in my book, being a tea aficionado I did noticed the Teacups used were actually coffee cups. The difference being tea cups have a wider bell and are shallower whereas the coffee cups have a smaller bell and are deeper. The only actual teacups were used as decoration on the walls which were part of the charm.

My friend and I had a First Kids coupon that was a $20 valued savings off of the Afternoon Tea for two ($22 per person). Unfortunately they did not include many of the food items from the original tiered Afternoon Tea, hence the $20 savings ($10 per person). When the final bill arrived, it read $22 plus an additional $4.95 for tea per person, on both her bill and mine. I had to mention it to our server and when she returned all she said was, “ok, your bill was fixed”. Polly Claire’s is an experience I look forward to every time I visit. Although I was a bit disappointed on this particular visit, I have decided that it is best on future visits to dine without the use of coupons to receive the full experience.

We loved the history of Dent House. We loved the table setting and décor. We loved the British Royal family info as we ate our scones. We loved the tea served at William and Kate's wedding! We loved our food and presentation. We loved our waitress.
Only improvement is make it clear that the pricing for the three tiered tea meal is not 32$ even for two people to share. Please explain its charged each per person. Needless to say I was shocked when I went to pay the bill. Other than that, it all in all was a nice experience. We loved getting our photo made with the Queen too!!

My friend and I used a school coupon for afternoon tea. We did not receive all of the "nibblers" which are listed as one of the courses on the menu. So basically we did not receive a fourth of the courses. I don't know if it was because we used a coupon or if it was an oversight or if they have changed their menu items.

This was our third visit and very disappointing. While the house was decorated for Christmas, the tables were not. The tea we chose was delicious, but because it was just placed on the table without a flame, it became cool after we sat for an hour. The pot of tea was not included in the cost of the "holiday tea", so we were both charged $4.50 for the one pot. The three tiered tea plate was scantily covered with finger sandwiches and baked goodies which I found surprising when you consider it cost $37. I had expected more at that price. Another member of my party ordered from the menu and found that the quiche and chicken salad were quite bland in flavor. This tea for two cost $70 when the tip was added onto the bill. On a positive note, our server was fantastic! She had an engaging personality and was a very efficient server. In addition, the vanilla scone served at the beginning of the tea was the best scone we had ever eaten.

Honestly I must tell you the truth. I think the chicken croissant would be a little easier to eat if they could slice it put the chicken salad inside and slice the croissant into two pieces. It’s hard to cut it with a fork and eat it. And as far as the Tea ...$4.50 per person is a little bit extravagant...Two people should be able to share one pot for $4.50. But the atmosphere the servers are fantastic!

This place was amazing! Down to the cute decorations, amazing tea and food, but most importantly, the staff. My server was patient, walked me through how everything worked and gave me recommendations on the teas I might enjoy based on what I was telling her. I'm visiting out of state, so you can bet I've got to squeeze in another visit before I have to leave!

We had a lovely time at Polly Claire's. The service was exceptional. Our server was very attentive and we loved that she was very informative on the way to do things, like breaking the scone, not cutting it. Everything was delicious. The only issue we had were we had quite a few things left off our afternoon tea tiers but it was quickly corrected. We will be back for sure!

You advertized a desert you did not have. We wanted to try the figgy pudding. So I chose another desert that was so hard and dry I could not eat it. Very disappointing way to end a meal. It would have been nice if Christmas music had been playing. The meal was "ok" but nothing to tell my friends about. Probably will not be coming back.
